Ryan Tomlin is a clinical pharmacist specializing in HIV Medicine at the Trinity Health Grand Rapids McAuley Clinic, the largest HIV clinic in West Michigan serving roughly 1,300 patients annually. He received his doctorate from Purdue University and completed two years of residency at The University of Oklahoma. Currently, he is actively involved with a number of HIV organizations across the state of Michigan including the Michigan chapter of the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center and the Michigan HIV/AIDS Council. He also works closely with the state health department by presenting novel antiretroviral medications to the Michigan HIV Drug Assistance Program Formulary Committee and by working to expand access to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. He supports the training of future clinicians by coordinating two second-year pharmacy residency programs specializing in infectious diseases and ambulatory care. He is also Core Faculty for the Corewell Health/Trinity Health infectious diseases fellowship program. For these efforts in both didactic and clinical education, he was recently awarded the Clinical Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Infectious Disease Society, where he was the first ever nonphysician to receive the award.
Bill Short is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Perelman School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University and subsequently completed his internship, residency, and chief residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at MCP/Hahnemann University. He has been engaged in HIV clinical care and research since 2003 and currently serves as Associate Director of Penn’s HIV Adult Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) and Co-Director of the Clinical Core of Penn’s Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). Nationally, he contributes as a scientific member on the DHHS guideline panel on the Treatment of HIV During Pregnancy and Prevention of Perinatal Transmission and co-leads the antiretroviral section. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Primary Care guidance panel His research interests include investigations on novel antiretroviral strategies with a focus on long-acting therapy and studies in pregnant persons with HIV.
