Dr. Jose Pablo Diaz Madriz, PharmD, MSc.
Dr. Díaz Madriz is a clinical pharmacist and a pharmacology specialist from Costa Rica. Currently, he servs as Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator and the Coordinator of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) at Clínica Bíblica, San José, Costa Rica.
Dr. Díaz Madriz has worked as an international consultant for the Pan American Health Organization in research and strengthening of ASP in Latin America. He has worked in workshops in Central and South America related to ASP implementation and optimization of antibiotic use and has published on implementation of ASP interventions. Currently is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on AWaRe, providing technical assistance to WHO in the field of antimicrobial use and stewardship.
He is a Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Costa Rica and the University of Medical Sciences (UCIMED).
Dr. Díaz Madriz has worked as an advisor for the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ministry of Health of Costa Rica. He is a Member of the National Commission on Antimicrobial Resistance and is one of the co-authors of Costa Rica National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance. In Costa Rica he is also a member of the National Strategy for Surveillance of AMR from INCIENSA (Instituto Costarricense de Investigación y Enseñanza en Nutrición y Salud).
Dr. Laila Woc-Colburn, MD
Dr. Woc-Colburn is a Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Emory University School of Medicine and an attending physician at Emory University Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala, followed by an internal medicine residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. She subsequently completed fellowships in infectious diseases and HIV medicine, as well as a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Dr. Woc-Colburn’s clinical and academic interests center on tropical diseases in immunocompromised populations—including individuals living with HIV—alongside mycotic infections, orthopedic infections, and the advancement of medical education. A passionate educator and mentor, she is deeply committed to training the next generation of healthcare professionals in infectious diseases and to fostering inclusive excellence in medicine. Through mentorship and leadership development, she actively empowers women and underrepresented minorities to thrive and lead in the medical field.
Dr. Nicolás Valdebenito, PharmD
Dr. Valdebenito is the antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist at Dr. Gustavo Fricke Hospital in Chile, and Adjunct Professor in the School of Pharmacy at Andrés Bello University. His work-related interests include optimizing antimicrobial therapy in special populations, therapeutic drug monitoring of antimicrobials, and overseeing their use to promote appropriate prescribing practices within the hospital.
