Ed Septimus MD, FIDSA, FACP, FSHEA.
Ed Septimus is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He was VP of Research and Infectious Diseases at HCA Health Care until 2018, and he served on the Board of Directors of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, or IDSA, and was on the IDSA Antimicrobial Resistance Committee, the Shea Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, and the IDSA Quality Measurement Committee. He was the chair of the Health Care Safety Advisory Committee for the Texas Department of State Health Services from 2018 to 2021, and he was on the expert panel for the Shea Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals. He co-chaired the NQF Patient Safety Steering Committee until the end of 2021, and was vice chair of the NQF Consensus Standards Approval Committee. He is now on the IDSA Sepsis Task Force and holds a faculty position as professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine and senior lecturer at the Department of Population Medicine and Harvard Medical School.
Whitney Buckel PharmD, BCIDP
Whitney Buckel is the System Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Manager at Intermountain Health, which is a 33-hospital health system across five states in the Intermountain West. Her first five years after residency were as the Clinical Infectious Diseases Pharmacist at Intermountain Medical Center, where she established an antimicrobial stewardship program, as well as a role for ID Pharmacy within the ID Consultation Service. In 2017, she moved into a leadership role at the system level, and she has co-led pioneering work in health system stewardship that includes small and rural hospitals and outpatient stewardship, including collaborative work with Pew Charitable Trusts to better describe health system level stewardship and its powerful potential to improve patient care. Dr. Buckel has previously served as the antimicrobial stewardship track chair for the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America Spring Meeting, and vice chair on the Board of Pharmacy Specialists, Specialty Council on Infectious Diseases. She’s currently a board member at large for the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists
